World Spay Day - February 26, 2013

EVERY DAY IS SPAY DAY!
MN SNAP completes our 3rd Annual Spay Day Event with 95 Surgeries!

In honor of the 19th annual World Spay Day, MN SNAP organized our 3rd annual spay day event, Every Day Is Spay Day.

Along with Dr. Kim's surgical team operating at the stationary clinic at Minneapolis Animal Care and Control (MACC) the MN SNAP mobile surgical vehicle was on-site at MACC.  Surgeries were performed on pets from the low-income community, feral cats, adoptees from MACC, and potential animal rescue pets.

MN SNAP requested that Twin Cities area veterinarians to post materials and donation boxes at their practices to help fundraise to perform these surgeries.

In addition to our surgical efforts at MACC on Spay Day, Dr. Lisa's team was joined by Dr. Lara Rasmussen and Dr. Arlo Frost at Silver Lake Animal Hospital on February 26th.  All together we performed 95 surgeries on Spay Day.

Why Promote Spay Day?

In Minnesota alone, estimates are that over 90,000 companion animals a year are euthanized due primarily to overpopulation issues. MN SNAP is a registered 501c3 who, in partnership with Blue Sky Veterinary Services, has the mission, “to end the suffering and death of homeless animals due to pet overpopulation by providing high-quality, affordable, and accessible spay and neuter services to Minnesota shelters, rescue organizations, and the companion animals of the low-income community.” We travel the area in our mobile surgical vehicle, bringing low cost spay and neuter to the pets of qualifying low income individuals. We have been operating since the end of April 2010, and have performed well over 28,000 surgeries to date.

This Spay Day Event will serve several purposes. It will facilitate the spay/neuter of many animals. It will bring needed attention to this issue, to MN SNAP, to MACC, and Tri County Humane Society as well as supporting Veterinarians/Clinics. It will help to forge even stronger relationships between MN SNAP and the veterinary community. It will help MN SNAP to continue doing the important work that we do every day.
